Senator Allocated Funds for Road Projects in Siquijor
By Rene Rocamora

The Siquijor province’s circumferential road had been the subject of discussions and the butt of jokes by its citizens. While the road is finally pieced together from one end to the other, the quality of the road is very poor. The exception is the Larena-Siquijor road, which was originally paved with slurry seal but was demolished and replaced with cement and completed this year. The other is a stretch of highway in Najerong.

Millions of funds have been thrown into this road project and now eighteen million seven hundred fifty thousand pesos (P18,750,000.00) was allocated by Senator Renato L. Cayetano from his pork barrel funds. The amount was part of the eighty million pesos (P80,000,000.00) that was allocated to him as senator. He was the only one out of eighteen senators who had allocations that selected Siquijor for the DPWH appropriation. Siquijor got the biggest share of the total funds allocated to Region VII. While Siquijorians should be thankful for the senator for his generosity, they should urged him to make sure these funds are applied properly.
