Catholic Church names Siquijorian Auxiliary Bishop

Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, December 29, 2001

A Siquijorian, Monsignor Julito B. Cortes, will be ordained Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Cebu Tuesday, January 8.  Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Msgr. Antonio Franco will officiate in the ordination at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete.

Named earlier this year Auxiliary Bishop Elect by the Holy Pope John Paul II, Msgr. Cortes will begin his duties on January 14 at the Sto. Rosario Church in Cebu.

After graduating with a degree in theology at the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila, Msgr. Cortes served in various positions in the Diocese of Dumaguete, positions that include the Vicar General.

His most recent post was that of the Diocesan administrator.  He was appointed Administrator in the absence of a Bishop.  He served until Bishop John Du was appointed in July.

Ceremonies to install Msgr. Cortes will be held at the Sto. Rosario Church in Cebu on January 14.
