Church names Siquijorian Auxiliary Bishop Dumaguete,
Negros Oriental, December 29, 2001 A
Siquijorian, Monsignor Julito B. Cortes, will be ordained Auxiliary Bishop of
the Archdiocese of Cebu Tuesday, January 8.
Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Msgr. Antonio Franco will officiate in
the ordination at the St. Catherine of Alexandria Cathedral in Dumaguete.
Named
earlier this year Auxiliary Bishop Elect by the Holy Pope John Paul II, Msgr.
Cortes will begin his duties on January 14 at the Sto. Rosario Church in Cebu. After
graduating with a degree in theology at the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila,
Msgr. Cortes served in various positions in the Diocese of Dumaguete, positions
that include the Vicar General. His
most recent post was that of the Diocesan administrator.
He was appointed Administrator in the absence of a Bishop.
He served until Bishop John Du was appointed in July. Ceremonies
to install Msgr. Cortes will be held at the Sto. Rosario Church in Cebu on
January 14.
